"Frankenstein" TEAR Essay

The science fiction novel "Frankenstein" written by Mary Shelley, portrays Victor Frankenstein , the protagonist as a very emotionally conflicted character. After being rescued in the arctic by Robert Walton, Victor Frankenstein tells the story of how he ended up in the arctic chasing a monster of his own creation.

Victor Frankenstein studied alchemy and learned how to spark life back into the dead. After his mother died he created a monster, ''it was on a dreary November night that I beheld the accomplishment of my toils.''(pg.42) Frankenstein created this monster and took no responsibility upon creating it. Throughout the book Shelly showed how Victor Frankenstein's  creation was rejected in human society.
The monster blamed Frankenstein for all the rejection and for making him so hideous, ''No mortal could support the horror of that countenance.''(pg.43) The monster demanded that Frankenstein make him a female monster just as hideous as he was, but Frankenstein couldn't go through with it. The monster wanted to feel less rejected and have somebody just like himself, and he knew that Frankenstein would marry soon,''the idea of an immediate union with my Elizabeth..''(pg.131)  The monster threatens Frankenstein and he kills Elizabeth.Victor Frankenstein grew sick hearing of the deaths that occurred .

Mary Shelley kept death throughout that novel because it would show why it was so important at the end of the book.Victor Frankenstein was an intelligent person that brought to life a monster from graveyard and animals part. What Victor Frankenstein didn't realize was he had created his own destruction.
